Introduction to Media and Information Literacy

Communication has become greatly changed by the use of the technology, Internet and social media. It has become easy to stay to ourselves and chat with the rest of the world without true interaction. We can hide behind our phones and our computers(Cheryl,2017).

Media Literacy is the ability to identify different types of media and understand the messages they’re sending.

Information Literacy is the ability to define problems in terms of their information needs, and to apply a systematic approach to search, locate, apply, and synthesize the information and evaluate the entire process in terms of effectiveness and efficiency.

Technology Literacy is the ability of an individual, working independently and with others, to responsibly, appropriately and effectively use technology tools to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, create and communicate information.

Media & Information Literacy recognizes the primary role of Media and Information in our everyday lives. The purpose of information and media literate is to engage in a digital society; One needs to be able to use, understand, inquire, create, communicate and think critically. It is important to have capacity to effectively access, organize, evaluate, and create messages in a variety of forms. Information and Media Literacy enables people to interpret and make informed judgement as users of information and media as well as to become skillful creators and producers of Information and Media messages in their own right.

Media cannot be taken away from us that is why I use media many times in a day for relaxation, communication, and also for gathering information. With these, using media has become my habit, and at the same time my lifestyle, in a way that I use it every day and to go with flow of the world. Since I live in a modern world, we cannot run away or avoid technologies from taking us over, and I use media as a tool for gathering information about the latest events.
